What to Expect
Therapy can be difficult but making the decision that it is time for therapy is a great first step. In our first session, I will meet with you for an intake appointment, which includes discussion of your presenting concerns, treatment goals, and whether we are a good fit for treatment. Ongoing patients are typically seen on a weekly basis for 45-55 minute sessions.
Types of Treatment
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is a great opportunity for us to work together toward your treatment goals. Here, we will focus on what is going well in your life, as well as areas you would like to improve upon. Individual therapy allows you the space for self-exploration and reflection.
Couples therapy
Couples therapy is a great option when partners want to develop a deeper appreciation for each other. Sometimes couples seek therapy due to an issue in the relationship and sometimes they seek therapy to continue building upon their strong foundation. It can be helpful to have an unbiased, outside perspective to help you manage your relationship. Therapy can help with communication, expectations placed on the relationship, and how to work better as a team.
Family Therapy
Family therapy, which may involve all members of the family or just a few, can be helpful to help create a safe and supportive environment at home. Family therapy can be helpful in highlighting difficulties in communication styles, behavioral patterns, and other conflicts, with the goal of strengthening the relationships.
Specialties
eating disorders
Seeking treatment for an eating disorder can be scary, but exploring your treatment options is the first step. Each eating disorder therapy session is tailored to each individual. For some, this might mean sessions exploring your relationship with food, reducing symptom use, and improving your body image. For others, your therapy sessions might include eating a snack or meal during therapy to help manage your anxiety. Either way, we will work together to help you focus on and become better and tolerating emotions, developing a healthy relationship with your body and eating, and learning relapse prevention strategies.
College/graduate students
College and graduate school is a time of transition for many students as they explore the different parts of their identities while also managing how to live independently. College is often a prime time for the development of many mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, and disordered eating. It can be helpful to have a space to learn how to manage the stresses of these changes to enhance your personal and professional growth.
infertility/pregnancy/postpartum
Wanting to start a family can be an exciting experience, though can feel isolating and confusing if everything “doesn’t go according to plan.” In addition to being someone who can help with donor recipient evaluations, I can provide space for individuals and/or couples experiencing difficulties in conceiving, through a pregnancy, and the postpartum journey.
